Our Story
Preston's Promise was founded out of the most unimaginable loss and the determination to ensure no family faces the heartbreak we’ve endured. Our son, Preston Matthew Sweitzer, was just 5 months old when we tragically lost him due to circumstances that could have been prevented. As parents, we were completely unaware of the potential dangers that can come with privately hiring in-home childcare. We had no idea that the steps we thought were keeping him safe would ultimately place him at risk. This lack of knowledge is what drove us to create Preston's Promise—a foundation dedicated to raising awareness, educating families, and advocating for change.​We are here to help parents navigate a system that doesn’t always prioritize transparency and safety. Our mission is to provide the tools, resources, and education families need to make informed decisions, so no one has to endure the same pain we have. Preston’s legacy is one of hope and protection, and through this foundation, we are determined to make a difference in his name.

Our mission is to honor the life of Preston Matthew Sweitzer by empowering families with the knowledge and resources to make informed decisions about in-home childcare. We are dedicated to raising awareness about the risks of privately hiring caregivers and advocating for child safety through education, support, and reform. Our goal is to ensure that every child is cared for in a safe, nurturing environment, and to provide hope and guidance to families facing similar challenges.

Cierra & Nick Sweitzer
Founders & CEOs
I was born and raised in the wide-open spaces of Wyoming, where I learned the value of family and hard work. After high school, I pursued my passion for healthcare and moved to Montana for college, where I developed lifelong friendships and met my husband during our freshman year.
After graduating, my journey brought me to Washington, where my husband and I have made our home. In 2021, we welcomed our first baby, Beckham, and two years later, our family grew with the arrival of our second child, Preston, in 2023. Being a mom has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life, and it has only deepened my commitment to my work as a NICU nurse.
For the past five years, I’ve had the privilege of caring for the tiniest, most vulnerable patients, and each day reminds me of the strength and resilience that comes with love and dedication. Balancing life as a wife, mother, and nurse can be challenging, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Each role I play fills my heart and gives me a greater sense of purpose.

I was born and raised in Wyoming, where I learned the values of resilience, family, and hard work. Today, I live in Washington with my husband and our daughter, where we’ve built a life rooted in love and purpose. Being a wife and a mom is the most rewarding role I’ve ever had, and it inspires me daily to pursue my goals and give back to my community.
I am proud to have earned my Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with a focus in Psychology from the University of Wyoming. My passion for the criminal justice field continues to shape both my career path and my desire to make a lasting impact.
Preston’s Promise is especially close to my heart. As Preston’s aunt, this foundation allows me to honor his memory by advocating for safer environments for children, supporting families, and working toward change that protects the most vulnerable among us.
Emily Malcolm

Hey there! I’m Emily, a proud stay-at-home mom to two little girls and recently married. I currently live in beautiful Oregon, but I originally hail from Washington State.
For about seven years, I worked as a firefighter/EMT, a role I absolutely loved until an injury led me to shift my career path. I transitioned into being a preschool teacher, which eventually opened doors for me to work with children with autism and behavioral challenges for about six years.
After moving to Oregon, I took on a new role as a billing manager assistant at a dermatology office.
Preston’s Promise holds a special place in my heart because Preston is my best friend’s nephew. As a mom, the thought of losing a child is something unimaginable, and I believe no one should have to experience that. I’m excited to be part of a community dedicated to making a difference!
